Exponent Calculator Formula & How It Works
- Positive exponent: multiply base by itself n times
- Negative exponent: take reciprocal (1/xⁿ)
- Zero exponent: x⁰ = 1 for any x ≠ 0
- Fractional exponent: x^(1/n) = nth root of x
Exponents represent repeated multiplication. 2³ = 2×2×2 = 8. Negative exponents represent reciprocals: 2⁻³ = 1/8. Fractional exponents represent roots: 8^(1/3) = ∛8 = 2. The exponent rules (product, quotient, power, zero, negative) make algebra manipulation efficient.
